Could you spill the beans on that lovely 'clean' acoustic sound on this track.
What make of guitar ?? Sounds vaguely like a Takamine ?? At first it sounded rich enough to be a 12-string, but now I'm convinced its just a lovely sounding 6 ??
Anyone want to share the chords ?? ;D

Ta. It is, indeed, a Takamine recorded acoustically with two extremely expensive-looking mics, one pointing at the soundhole and another, set up at 90 degrees to the first and pointing across the soundhole toward the end of the fret board, a method painstakingly worked out by our resident genius engineer Steve Tsoi at Soundmagic studio. There may have been some jiggery-pokery involved at the mixing stage too, but not a lot of outboard effects were loaded onto it as I recall. The open ringing chords are an 'E' (open bottom E, seventh fret on the A string, ninth fret on the D and G strings and an open B and top E) and a simple move of the finger from the A string onto the seventh fret on the low E string, and then a damped low E with an open A string and then back to the 'E' chord - the D and G strings kept fretted throughout as for the first chord (got that?). The chorus is simply the first chord slid up so that the same position is played with the A string being fretted at the eleventh and then twelfth frets and then back down to the original position - leave the B and top E's ringing throughout. Make any sense? I'm sure there are probably names for all these, but I'm buggered if I know what they are. James then plays some proper chords across this basic rhythm part. Then play it a bit louder and faster and you've got "Then There Was Sunshine". No-one can accuse us of not recycling.... ;D Cheers Shane

I think I play an Emaj7 at the beginning of the chorus, but I couldn't be sure, and then everyone except Shane pretty much plays C#, B, G# (just single notes or octaves) on the run-down. Not sure what Shane does there, but it's another one of our vaguely dischordant bits that we love so much. I suppose other people might call them 'mistakes' but not us, oh no Sir! It's not a mistake if you play it more than once. ;D

Being an ex-drummer it's my legal responsibility to add this comment to the current discussion; "Huh huh, Shane said G-string!" Thank you. Harry.
