I listened to three songs we've een working on in a row in the car the other day, really loud. And it's f**king brilliant. Mind you, that's how we work. I go "brilliant" and Jayems says "Ah yes, but about that bit there". And I say "Ah yes....quite". Mind you, Gib hasn't started listening to "Too" yet..... ;D

Nick Zala is not only an all round splendid fellow, but funny, generous, and a darned fine pedal steel player. Yes folks, when we said, "Let's Do It Country" on the first elbun, we weren't kidding. Another day in the company of High Barn engineer, peanut addict (and soon to be onstage monitor tech) James, who remained calm, collected and thoroughly cool in the face of being forced to spend the day with an odd thing with levers, pedals and strange Freddie Krueger-like finger attachments. And that was just Nick.... Thankfully the technology meltdown last week just lost the rough mixes we'd saved, not any of the actual recordings, which were last spotted huddled, mewling like frozen children, in a corner of the hard drive squeaking "Don't let the lightning get me...!!!"

I must add my twopenn'orth. Nick Zala is a true gent and a man of great musical instinct and talent. It was an absolute pleasure to have him along today, and I hope we can even tempt him along for the odd live show in the future.
He not only sprinkled his excellent pedal steel playing over 5 songs, he also had an idea for guitar part and bashed that out as well. This has been a very happy day.

Word on the street is that Parters is summoning his last reserves of strength to oversee some sessions at the start of October in order to finally finish the blessed thing orf. Then all we have to do is whittle it down to a manageable girth before unleashing it on an unsuspecting public early next year.

Right, that's me all done. We also managed to trap Paul Mosley out of Moses in a small room and get him to sing a song for us before he had to nip back to that London and play a euphonium at some sort of arty happening. Despite some very unfair teasing that we'd got the wrong brother in and veiled hints that we just wanted his address book, and the suggestion that Glyndebourne was a nightclub in Hartlepool, Mr Paul sorted out the song good and proper and it's already sounding like one of the stand outs on the elbun, and that's before Fiddly's got his bow on it. Engineer Simon was patient and forgiving as ever as we wiped a swathe of guitars off one track and replaced them all with a couple of new parts and didn't look at all fazed when we announced that we'd be bringing in a vibraphone next week....

Fiddly's been in for the first of his proscribed visits to High Barn Towers. So tell us, once we finish up and tidy up the tuning, finalise the mixes and present the finished article for your delectation, shall we do the whole sleeve notes thing on the main site again, or just wait for questions on the forum?

Hmm? decisions, decisions The obvious answer would be both, of course ;D But having a care for your 'highly insured' fingertips, that may prove to be too much strain on them I think the Mainsite thing would be the most practical! Idiots like me will still ask blindingly obvious questions on the forum anyway ;D and wait for Shane to direct me (im)patiently back to the Mainsite with a scathing comment Mic

Mix, it will appear eventually, honest! We've had some marvellous contributions recently from Judy 'One Take' Dyble and Paul Moseley-out-of-Moses, Fiddly's added some stuff and Russell has been delayed by the studio having to install new equipment. There ain't much left to do, but you can bet your life it'll be a while yet due to everyone being so darn busy (not least Russ and Alie and their impending child - due 15th Nov.) I promise you it'll be worth the wait though, I am seriously keen on this album.

Tomorrow I don my producer's hat and enter The High Barn to do some Mulley-wrangling. Yes, our beloved chanteuse is due to commit herself to hard disk at last. Naturally, we shall be adopting the Daniel Bedingfield method of recording and doing all the vocals nude, which should make the CD insert photos interesting, at least. I hope to be avoiding the session where Gibbon comes in to do his backing vocals, naturally. As it were.
