Another day, another set of overdubs. The patient and willing James Munson on drums, listening back to Gibbon's six-part horn arrangement, a Crosby-esque harmony by yrs truly, and some mandolin-wrangling to tidy up some of Russ's parts (as it were). There's only one cello and a couple of vocals to go now, promise. Kudos and appreciation to The Blue Egg organic deli and farm shop for catering supplies and James's Skoda's anti-skid equipment for getting us there in the snow in the first place.

And so, in summary... The new album - 'Tree' line-up news. So with most of the actual recording bits done, like the last one the new album features a multitude of people doing various things after being cajoled and (occasionally) paid. The pretty much usual crew of James Partridge (guitar, vocals, backing vocals), Shane Kirk (guitar, vocals, backing vocals, bouzouki) , Richard Hammond (bass, backing vocals), Helen Mulley (vocals, backing vocals, flute), Richard Lockwood (fiddle), Tony Winn (banjo), Russell Barnes (mandolin, dobro) were joined by: Paul Read (drums/percussion) Nick Zala (pedal steel/guitar) www.pedal-steel.co.ukTony Turrell (piano/keyboards) www.myspace.com/tonyturrellLiz Townsend (cello/backing vocals) www.ltownsend.co.uk James Munson (drums/percussion/backing vocals) Paul Mosley (1 x lead vocal/backing vocals) www.myspace.com/paulmosleyJudy Dyble (1 x lead vocal/backing vocals) www.myspace.com/judydybleStephen Mears (guitar/backing vocals/writing credits) www.myspace.com/picturehouseSteven Constable (backing vocals) www.myspace.com/picturehouseDavid Booth (backing vocals) www.aloneme.comSarah Springett (backing vocals) www.aloneme.comCara Winter (backing vocals) www.carawinter.comIt was wonderful to have such major contributions from Paul Read, Nick Zala, Tony Turrell, Liz Townsend, Paul Moseley and Judy Dyble - all performers whose work we admire very very much, and who have all added some really fabulous stuff to what has become an absolute monster of an album. Most of the time we sat back wide-eyed and wondered why on earth people like this had agreed to come and play on our songs with the vaguest of guidance; but we did know why we'd asked them alright - it was because they are all people who have enough vision and musical common sense to interpret the tunes and know exactly what to add. We will be forever grateful to all of the contributors.

Well, we've run out of time and money to continue recording, and Engineer Simon has run out of tracks to put any more people singing on 'Risk' so we've booked the first of the mixing sessions instead. Hold fast, chums, the behemoth approaches.....

Well, Anaphase never turned up, so we got on with the business of mixing. A jolly successful day it was too, with 5 of the 16 songs getting their final mix...probably. We're hoping to get all the mixing done by next week, so all we have to do then is get the artwork done (after we've decided what it's going to be) and then get some friendly Germans to put it all together. No idea how long all that's going to take, mind.
