I was sort of hoping Shane would kick this off, being as it was mostly his idea to do it, and what with him being the biggest Fairport Convention fan 'n' all. But he's gone all shy so here I am...
Having rehearsed 'just enough' for the night, we were hopeful of a result on the HB stage and I think we may have pulled it off!
Jude was kinda nervous, not having sung more than a song or two in public for 5 years, but I thought she did a grand job whilst we noodled about in the background. It was a thrill to play with her on the two old Fairport tunes, an honour to hear her singing Helen's song 'Little No-one' and a real challenge to transpose Jude's new song 'I Still Remember', as Simon House's original arrangement is very string-based.
The after-show drink-up back at The Blue House was fun too, with Ms. Dyble confessing to drinking "Three more glasses of wine than usual..." *
The following day Jude recorded her vocal for 'Little No-one' for our new CD, and then added some spooky stuff at the end of 'Risk' as well, before I whisked her back to Oxfordshire and was treated to a very nice cup of Assam and a peek at some very old original Trader Horne and Fairport LPs.
A splendid weekend.
* Four.

'Tis a wonderful, wonderful thing to be playing (a very loose appropriation of) Richard Thompson's part on a Fairport Convention song while Judy Dyble waits patiently for you to finish before doing the next verse. And to be sharing it with your best friends. Everyone should try it once. Now there's a box I never thought I'd tick. Thanks everyone.

That's not a bad box to tick at all Shane. What have you got left to do now then? Apart from collaborate with a very talented acoustic duo from Plymouth ahem.
