...Songs from The Blue House. ;D A quick phone call, a hurried discussion and there we are, James and I backstage at The High Barn's acoustic night due to a turn's late withdrawal, and trying to remember which order the verses to Shoot Out The Lights go in. Nice to stretch out a bit and do half a dozen songs so the stripped-down, lean (well...) version of SftBH premiered three more new songs from Tree, including a breathlessly received Parters-centric version of When Mama Sings, before going off-roading and closing the set with a rather torrid Tonight's The Night - the Neil Young song rather than Sir Rod of Stewart's beery pub singalong (which was, strictly speaking, our brief to begin with). James rather splendidly improvised the Nils Lofgren role while I riffed away in a Neil Young stylee (which is one of my favourite pastimes anyway, let's face it) and worked further on my Stars In Their Eyes audition piece. We were called back even after that, and reprised our version of Hank Williams' Hey Good Lookin', complete with beer bottle slide guitar solo and Mr P's quite splendidly conjoined leapt chair dismount and full length spreadeagled stage-surfing climax before sloping out into the night. Well, they don't let you smoke inside.
