We were pleased to be able to heft ourselves behind the Ipswich Trades Union movement and perform a half hour set with the four-piece SftBH Small Band at The Steamboat on sunday for the benefit of Mr Kite. Or the Ippo May Day international festival of workers something or another benefit gig. Al Lindsay was good, Belinda Gillet was small and perfectly formed, and I hear that Ronstadt did a stormer. Sadly Gib had to go home and continue moving house, and the inclemency of the garden meant that we made a collective decision to decamp to The Dove and so missed their set, still we had a roight oul hooly, moind. Nice to get back to traditional Blue House values of 'small, and songs', even if it did mean me improvising the solos that Russ and Turny Winn usually take, and quite badly, frankly*. Better times to come at Bishop's Stortford on thursday, when the raw power of "irresistable banjo riffs" shall be released once again. :-) No sign of our local Labour MP Chris Mole at this event. Probably too busy arranging dinners at Granita to support such a thing.
*I meant that I played them quite badly...
